Abstract
The overall purpose of rehabilitation in mental health is to make it possible for the patient to achieve a satisfactory level of functioning in those performance skills that are essential to accomplishing the everyday tasks of living. A
satisfactory
level of functioning means being able to manage the essential social roles and basic tasks of daily living as independantly as possible. It means being cope with the demands of one's living environment in ways that are satisfying to one's self
and
to
significant others.
Structually, rehabilitation services includes a number of disciplines, each providing a unique set of specialized services. These services should be organized and offered in a way that ensures a functional continuuum directed toward making it
possible
for the patient to function at the maximum level, Such specialized services most typically include the creative-expressive arts (music, arts, dance), education, occupational therapy, physical therapy, recreation, speech and hearing, and
vocational
rehabilitation.
